Who needs a Food Protection Manager Certificate?

The state of Minnesota requires that every food establishment licensee must employ a CFPM.

Is the certificate state-approved?

Yes. The Minnesota Dept. of Health (MDH), Environmental Health Division accepts Responsible Training's ANAB-CFP accredited program.

How do I Register the Initial CFPM Certificate with the Minnesota Department of Health?

Once you have completed the Initial CFPM Course and passed the final exam, you must then submit your certificate to the Minnesota Department of Health and pay a fee to be registered. Just follow these steps:

1. Download your Responsible Training Certified Food Protection Manager Certificate to your computer.
2. Go to the MDH Online Licensing System page.
3. Click Sign Up.
4. Create an account using a valid email address.
5. Log into your new account and set up your profile.
6. Complete the Applicant Information form.
7. Enter the date on which you passed the final exam.
8. Upload the certificate that you downloaded in step 1.
9. Confirm the accuracy of the information and submit your application.
10. Pay $45 to the State of Minnesota.

The MN Department of Health will send your Minnesota CFPM Certificate, which is valid for 3 years. After 3 years you must re-certify with the state, but you do not need to retake the ANAB-CFP exam.

How long does it take to complete?

The course takes about 6 to 8 hours to complete and is entirely online. The exam has a 2 hour time limit.

There are two possible test forms you can take. Both test forms are equivalent with the same minimum passing score of 75% +\- 0.1%.

Do I need to schedule the final exam?

No. Our on-demand remote proctored exam is available 24/7. You just start the exam and within a few minutes a live proctor will come online to get you started.

How does remote proctoring work?

Once you have completed the course, you are ready to take the exam. The exam will have a Remote Proctor, meaning that you will need a computer with a camera and audio, which allows a remote live proctor to observe you while you take the exam.

In order to take your certification exam, you must have a system that meets the requirements and a valid ID. Watch the video to see all the rules that our proctoring partner, Integrity Advocate, enforces to ensure the exam is taken securely.

Once you’ve set up your exam area and the Integrity Advocate proctor has approved, you may begin the exam. You must score a passing grade of 75% to receive your Food Protection Manager Certification.

Your certification will become available in your account within 1-2 business days after passing the exam.

Can I take the course and exam on a mobile device?

You can take the course on a phone, tablet, or computer. However, you must take the exam on a computer with working camera, mic, and speakers.

When do I get my certificate?

You’ll receive your Responsible Training Food Protection Manager Certificate within 1 to 2 days after passing the final exam.
